What is the Young Marines Program?

The program focuses on character building, leadership and promotes a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. Young Marine units are community based programs lead by former, retired, active duty, or reserve Marines who believe passionately that the values they learned as Marines had a positive effect on them. They volunteer their time and effort to pass these values on to youths in their respective communities.

How old you need to be to be part of the Young Marines?

The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls age 8 through ending high school.

How do I as a parent / guardian get my child to be a Young Marine?

What kind of exercise they do?

The Young Marines conduct PT (Physical Training) which will consist of push-ups, side straddle hops, sit-ups, pull-ups, and a one or two mile run. Some units will also conduct teamwork or agility drills as well as close order drill, color guard drill, and/or rifle team drill.

How often they get together?

Young Marines of Miami-Dade drill (get together) every other Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Schedule might change depending on the holidays. Please check our Drill Schedule.

As a parent / guardian,  I need to be present during drill?

During drill parents or guardians are welcome to stay but not required. As a parent you can drop-off your child at the beginning of the drill and pick it up at the end of it.

What do I do if I have a child that needs medication or special requirements?

Young Marines of Miami-Dade has qualified medical staff during each drill. If your child require to take some medication or have some special requirement. Please notify our adult staff and bring the required medication for your child so we can assist you with that requirement.
